Hiking and sailing along the Camino del Norte.

This is a unique and exceptional experience! On board of Le Français a great 50 m long sailing ship with an experimented sailing team, you will discover the Northern Way from Bayonne to La Coruna at the western point of Spain. This 7 day sailing experience combined with guided hiking days on the Way of Saint James stages will take you to discover the most remarkable ports and towns of this route!


Day 1

BAYONNE - Basque Country (France)
First departure : From the 3rd to the 9th of september 2019
Second departure : from the 16th to the 22d of september 2019
Meeting point: Port de Bayonne - Quai Grenet - Allées Marines - City buses or by train
Day 1 – Sailing route : Bayonne - Pasajes - San Sebastian - Bilbao
05.00 - Embarking at Bayonne and casting off Pasaïa /Pasajes (23 Milles – 4hours sailing)
08.00 – Breakfast on board
09.00 - Arrival at Pasajes San Juan – Disembarking of the group
09: 30 - Camino de Santiago : Pasajes San Pedro to San Sebastian ( 8 km - 3hours )
Once you have crossed the river thanks to little boats,you get in San Pedro, fishermen village ,where Lafayette put in to America.
Victor Hugo also stayed there –You cant’ get lost in this tiny village with brightfull colored windows.
Amazing and balancing on a hill this is the starting point to climb up the Ulia mount, a beautifull hike that leads us to the great surfing beach in San Sebastian.
12.30 – Arrival at San Sebastian
13.00 –Llunch at the gastronomka club, a special social place.
02.00 – Calling at Bilbao and dinner on the boat.

Stop at Bilbao (24 hours)
07.00 – Arrival at Bilbao
08.00 – Breakfast on board
09.00 – Disembarking off the group
Cultural day and walking in the city of Bilbao.
13.00 – Lunch in the old city of Bilbao
20.00 – back to the boat and dinner on the boat

Day 3

Day 3 - Sea route : Bilbao / Santoña / Ribadesella
05.00 – Calling at Santoña
08.00 – Breakfast on board
09.00 – Disembarking of the group
10.45 – Camino de Santiago : Santoña-Noja (13 km – 3hours walking)
The natural parc of the swallow Santona is home of the most important nests in Europe for sea birds.
The walking takes you to beautiful landscapes
– Sailing route 3 : Santoña / Ribadesella
14.00 – Lunch in a restaurant in Noja, Back to Santoña
16.00 – Calling at Ribadesella (86 milles,14 h sailing)
20.00 – Dinner on board

Day 4

Sailing route 4 : Ribadesella /Gijon (27 Milles, 5 h sailing)
06.00 – Arrival at Ribadesella.
08.00 – Breakfast on board
08.45 – Disembarking off the group for a 3 hours’walking
Ribadesella protected by the mouth of the river, spreaded and safe, is a nice introduction to the Cantabric sea.
This is where happens the wooden boats ‘party,a worldwide event.the cliffs of this area are celebrating the jurassic times, with its dinosaurs’footsteps. From the upper part, you will enjoy an amazing view onto the « Picos de Europa » ending into the sea with the Santa Marine Beach.

14.00 – Casting of Gijon (27 Milles, 5h sailing)
19.00 – Arrival in Gijon
20.00 - Tapeo and dinner in a typical ciderhouse

Day 5

- Sailing route 5 : Gijón / Avilès / Cudillero
05.00 – Casting of Gijon / Avilés (23 milles - 4h sailing).
08.00 – Lunch on board
09.00 – Arrival in the port of Avilès
10.00 – Casting of Avilés / Cudillero (30 milles – 5h sailing)
09.30 – Transfer by bus to Santiago .
10.00 - Camino Santiago : Santiago del Monte à Cudillero (15 km– 3h de marche)
You will take the way down to Santiago crossing wonderfull landscapes, , You’ll make your way to Cudillero, one of the most picturesque fishing port on the asturian coast , nesting levels of little houses . A little lighthouse is watching the sea. The hiking paths are following the mountains up to the cliffs giving us a panoramic view on the village. Many ciderhouses are providing fresh fish and local cider.
14.00 – Lunch in a restaurant in Cudillero
16.00 – Castin of to Navia (30 milles, 5h sailing)
20.00 – Dinner on board
21.00 – Arrival in Navia port

Day 6

Sailing Route 6 : Navia - Ribadeo (15 milles, 3 hours’ hiking)
08.00 - Breakfast
09.00 – Disembarking of the group in Navia
09.18 – Transfer by public bus or private bus to Tapia de Casariego
10.00 – Arrival in Tapia de Casariesgo
10.15 - Camino de Santiago : Marina de Tapia / Ribadeo ( 11km – 2 h 30 walking)
This is the end of the Asturian north way . The marina and the river give a special vision to this section.The beautifull landscape opens onto the fields and charming fishing places with their narrow streets. We are leading to Ribadeo on the northern section of the historic way, making our way slowly and peacefully to Santiago. From the romanesque port of Porcillan, The way leads us to the Pancha island’s lighthouse, located at the entrance of the river. On the way back you can enjoy oyster tasting ,eels, salmon or even trouts, stars of the local gastronomy and end up with delicious desserts done by the nuns of Sant Clara convent. According to the tides,spare some time to explore As catedrais, a beautifull sandy and rocky experience .
13.00 - Ribadeo, lunch in a restaurant
15.30 – Casting off to La Coruna (86 milles, 14hours sailing)
20.00 – Lunch on board.

Day 7

– Sailing Route : Arrival at La Coruña
08.00 – Breakfast on bord
09.00 – Arrival at the port of La Coruña.
10.00 – Disembarking of the group
10.45 – Meeting at the townhall of la Coruña
