Hiking the creeks around Marseille is amazing and spectacular. This walking holiday is all about blue sea and white lime stone cliffs and offers unforgettable scenery. The coast from Cassis to Marseille is a protected paradise. This is the heart of the Provence, where Marcel Pagnol, Dumas, Lamartine and even Simone de Beauvoir wrote about these creeks and where many painters of all periods have been seduced by the colors and the unique year round sunlight !
Day 1
Arrive in your hotel from 11h00 am. Discover Marseille's many colorful neighborhoods including the Vieux Port. Depending upon your arrival time, a first walk following Marcel Pagnol’s footsteps towards the Grosibou cave and Taoumé Peak. Dinner & night Marseille -4 hour walk.
Day 2
The Frioul Island - 4 hour walk
just a few minutes boat crossing off of Marseille's coastline. A warmup walk on the Ile Pomegues with its numerous creeks and on the Ile Ratonneau with the strange ruins of the Caroline hospital with its chapel built like a Greek temple. Swim in one of the many creeks with views on the Roman City.
Day 3
The Cote Bleue from l'Estaque to La Redonne creeks. 5 ½ hour walk
Transfer by a little picturesque coastal train. Discover the favorite luminous and colorful landscapes of the Impressionist, Fauvist and Cubist painters.
Day 4
Sormiou, Morgiou and Sugiton 5 hour walk
3 creeks at Marseille's door, a pathway dotted with Spanish Lilac, heather in bloom, with exceptional views over the Calanque massif and lovely tiny ports with turquoise blue waters, with sometimes sandy and sometimes pebble beaches. Bus transfer to Cassis. Night Cassis.
Day 5
The Calanques of Port-Miou, Port Pin and En Vau - 4 hour walk
From Cassis harbor, discover the deepest Calanques, a magical walk between breathtaking needle-shaped peaks and deep gorges.
Day 6
The Cap Canaille - 4 hour walk
Walk from Cassis to la Ciotat along the Crest trail on the highest maritime cliffs of France, the Pas de la Colle and the Bec de l'Aigle Semaphore. Back to Cassis with the bus.
Day 7
End of your programme in Cassis after breakfast.
